THE CLEAR WATER MAYFLY EMERGER

When the mayfly hatch is in the early stages and the water turns shallow, not all emerger imitations will do. This one is perfect for my waters in Trysil, Norway. I am sharing my favorite emerger pattern for the Danica hatch – watch the video below.

The Clear Water Mayfly Emerger is a perfect imitation where the stream flows slowly, the water is clear and shallow. It is tied to get as close as possible to the real thing, with few but necessary attractors. Do not be afraid to tie it on a size 10, and not 8 as I do in the video.

The Mayfly hatch is the peak experience of the season. My favorite spot for both trout and grayling is a knee deep slow flowing detour in our river. Here the trout and graylings are wary, and won’t take any emerger pattern. In the early stages of the hatch cycle you’ll need an emerger pattern, since the fish turn selective on the hatching nymph. The Clear Water Mayfly Emerger pattern is made for this very spot, but it is a good general pattern for all those slow flowing rivers and streams where the mayfly (E.danica) is hatching.
