THE MATING DRAGONFLY

Fish rarely feed on grown dragonflies, but these beautiful monster water insects are worthy of a closer look.

They’re called Odonata in Latin but enjoy creative and fairytale like names in the Scandinavian languages.

They are beautiful, and surrounded by myths. Most people respect these bugs that can grow to the size of a little bird.

In Norway they are called ”Eye stingers” (Øyenstikker) causing a lot of people to fear these beauties. The Swedes call them ”The Troll fly” (Trollslända), but the Danes have honored the Dragonfly with the name “The Goldsmith” (Guldsmed).
