"There's more to sustainability than Patagonia clothing"

THE TEN RIVERS TRIP DOGMA

THE CLIMATE IS CHANGING, AND SO SHOULD WE. GLOBAL WARMING AND CHANGES IN THE POPULATION OF BOTH INSECTS AND FISH SCARES MOST OF US. IT THREATENS OUR WAY OF LIFE. NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT, AND THINK ABOUT SUSTAINABLE FLY FISHING.

Strive to be an ethically conscious fly fisher

The attention on sustainability and animal welfare is about to hit the fly fishing community. Catch and release fly fishing is acceptable, but only if you live up to a certain standard. We should therefore strive to fish as ethically conscious citizens with the best interest of fish and nature in mind.

Eligible to use – not to abuse nature

As fly fishers we are eligible to use nature, not entitled to abuse her. As fly fishers we can take part in the destruction of both nature and the wildlife. The right holds certain boundaries and limitations. We need to re-think our fly fishing practices.

An idiot has emptied his living room, and thrasted the ugly contents in a beautiful forest. Close to one of the finest rivers for trout and grayling in Europe, the Rena River.

Sense of Responsibility

Responsible use and taxation of nature requires a strong sense of responsibility. How to behave responsible in nature is one of man’s most fundamental wisdoms. It’s the knowledge and social responsible human  that leaves nature intact to the next generation.

As fly fishers we are exploiting nature.  By doing so in a sustainable way, fly fishers are continuing an ancient hunting culture. By acting responsible, we are hopefully cultivating knowledge and creating new ideals for the next generation of fly fishers.

Limit the use of Plastic

Fly tiers and fly fishers should pay attention to the increasing volume of micro plastics in our waters and the eco system. Not very long a go, a whale was found washed ashore on the western coast of Norway. The stomach of the wale was filled with plastic, and the poor mammal died from constipation and starvation.

A lot of the materials we fish with is made of plastic. We should start by limiting the use of plastic in fly tying and fly fishing. In the long rund we should turn to materials that does not pollute the ecosystem.
